Doug Goessman is a native of Chicago, Illinois and grew up on the Northwest side in the Old Irving Park neighborhood. He attended High School at Archbishop Weber in Chicago and college at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois where he received his degree in Art with an emphasis in Printmaking, in particular the process of Silkscreen printing. He also studied Graphic Design where he learned the skills to be able to bring home a regular paycheck while his art career was taking off. Doug began his career as an artist and graphic designer in Chicago before moving to the Peoria area where he was a Graphic Designer for 16 years. While still juggling two art related careers, he is now making a living as a full-time artist and high school art teacher. Doug currently lives and creates in the Peoria area where he has his studio in Downtown Peoria at the Contemporary Art Center.
Early in his art career Doug was recognized as one of Chicago’s Top Emerging Artists and was listed by various sources as an “artist to watch.” His work is regularly exhibited and represented by galleries in Chicago, Bloomington-Illinois, England, and Germany. Doug’s artwork can be found in several private collections and in the permanent collections of galleries, libraries and school. In 2007 He along with eleven other Peoria based artists formed a collaborative art group called "Satellite City Transmissions" that had exhibited throughout Illinois.
